Project Description
CLIENT | Leading Oil Major
VESSEL | LNG Tanker
LOCATION | Cardiff, Qatar, Korea
Date | Oct 18 – Dec 18
Overview
Approached by Leading Oil Major to carry out works on two of its tankers, CTS was engaged to upgrade the chiller cooling systems for inert gas production.
Due to having to maintain normal operations of the vessels, the obstacle to this project was that the system would always be running and could not be removed. In order to circumvent this CTS suggested that the best course of action in this case would be to upgrade the system with the BITZER compressor in-situ thus not disturbing usual operations.
Scope of Works
- Renew the old Hartford compressor with the BITZER.
- Update the program to support the modification.
- Work on stainless steel pipes to enable the new connection.
- Test and commission the entire system from combustion to the production of inert gas.

Result
Upon carefully studying the system in order to accurately convert the obsolete compressor with the new BITZER, CTS was able to upgrade the PLC and return it to a fully functioning state.
This was all possible due to the vast experience gained from many jobs completed by our specialist teams and their knowledge and know-how when tackling any obstacles that arise. This included managing to do hot work inside the IG room of an LNG (that carries flammable product), by conducting excellent safety practice.
Client Feedback
“Helpfulness and conduct of project staff was excellent, as was the safety induction on arrival.
Would recommend CTS services to others and we have contracted CTS to complete work on a sister vessel.”
