Project Brief

CTS Offshore and Marine received an enquiry to carry out urgent steel repairs on a vessel’s damaged cargo tanks at Singapore.

The vessel was inspected, and a plan was submitted within a day’s notice. The execution plan took into account the restriction of hot work permit availability of only 4 days by Singapore Port Authorities and the requirements to complete to the satisfaction of CLASS. Time was of the essence for the vessel to meet the next Lay-Can.

CTS Offshore and Marine deployed a team of 40 skilled manpower & immediate pre-fabrication of girders and bulkheads in our workshop was started. The tasks were coordinated with precision and safely executed without the need of taking the vessel to the shipyard, saving the owners considerable time and costs.

Scope of Work

  • Steel repair / renewal work
  • Riding teams & equipment supply
  • Scaffolding & painting
  • NDT inspection

A team was deployed to take up the task at anchorage; it required tower staging of 14m high and 12m wide in 4 different locations to renew steel of about 8 MT.

The job was immaculately planned, with the prefabrication of the girders and the bulkhead at CTS workshop ashore, whilst the team on board cut the damaged steel. The prefabrication was then transported to the vessel and fitted diligently.

On request of the owners, additional required services for accommodation furniture and PV valve testing were seamlessly arranged.

Results

The corrugated Bulkhead in way COT no 4 and 5 was renewed, tested in presence of owners and to the satisfaction of CLASS. The new steel was coated to the paint maker’s standard and tanks were made ready for the next cargo loading timely and with zero incidents. The vessel met its lay-can and owners were extremely pleased with how CTS understood the urgency of the situation and delivered accordingly.
