Project Brief

In August, CTS was approached by a long-term client to examine and repair the bottom area of its vessel’s number one water ballast tank and forepeak tank – all within a complete turnaround of 35 days.

Our team executed the following:

  • Replacing six main frames partially on the bottom, and to add inserts to three of the secondary frames on the port-side
  • Replacing three main frames partially on the bottom on the starboard-side
  • Renewing 27 tonnes of steel in the ballast tank and forepeak tank

Scope of Work

The work took place in-situ with the vessel to minimise the ship’s downtime and to ensure a swift response from our technicians, who were able to conduct a thorough survey of the work that needed to be carried out and advise and work accordingly.

As ballast still remained in the tanks, the hot work inside the forepeak was carefully planned. Once the ballast water had been discharged, the hot work was able to commence inside the forepeak.

This reflects the realities of in-situ, afloat services onboard: by providing fully trained and skilful welders, CTS eliminated the vessel’s downtime, whilst maintaining the highest level of safety standards within the industry.
