Project Description
CLIENT | Ship Management Company
VESSEL | Bulk Carrier
DATE | December 2019-January 2020
LOCATION | Kuwait
Overview
CTS received an urgent inquiry from a leading shipowner and operating group regarding their 189-meter bulk carrier. The vessel’s cargo hold plates suffered damage and required a quick repair as the vessel needed to adhere to a strict schedule. CTS, therefore, sent a team of coded welders to complete the steel renewal. The damage was located in cargo hold no. 1 between frame no. 209 and 210 of the vessel. After further inspection, CTS devised an elaborate plan to remove the damaged area as quickly as possible.
Scope of Works
Once the cargo was discharged, and the hold wash was completed; ventilation was arranged within the hold and the ballast tank. Tower staging was erected in both areas and inspected to confirm safe access. All stiffeners were washed out from the ballast tank side. The damaged area was cropped and renewed with a 400mm x 300mm AH 36 high strength structural steel plate. The initial fitting and welding were carried out from the ballast tank area, while the back gouging and filler welding was completed from the cargo hold side.
