Project Description
CLIENT | Ship Management Company
VESSEL | Bulk Carrier
LOCATION | Ratnagiri (India)
DATE| October 2018
Overview
The client’s vessel was overdue its inspection as per class schedule for UTM, but due to a tight charter itinerary it was not possible to hold the vessel to carry out surveys.
The areas that required inspection were almost 30 metres high (top level cargo hold bulkheads and shell frames), however a cherry picker could not be used as the cargo holds were in loaded conditions and a discharge operation was continuously in process.
The major challenge of this job was that the vessel’s stay at the discharge port was for only 40 hours when a job of this magnitude would typically require 5-6 days to complete. In this case CTS advised that the best solution in the client’s circumstances would be to provide two expert rope access technician teams to execute this demanding operation due to the nature of the time constraints.
Thanks to the approach taken by CTS, we were able to have personnel working day and night to complete the inspection before the vessel’s 40 hour stay elapsed.
Scope of Works
- UTM inspection of the top areas of bulkheads and shell frames inside all the 7nos. cargo holds.

Result
The client was very impressed with our approach and before time job completion, notably that our strategy did not disrupt usual operations and the vessel could continue its tight charter schedule. We are pleased to share that the client has selected CTS for upcoming surveys on other vessels.
Client Feedback
The professional quality, safety standards and overall conduct from CTS was good.
I would not hesitate in recommending the services from CTS Offshore and Marine to others.
